Starting in your mid-20s, natural collagen production begins to decline by 1–1.7% every year. Because of this, your skin begins losing its volume as it starts to sag and wrinkles begin to appear.

If you desire to look years younger with a renewed boost of self-confidence, Shawn Hassler, MD, at Optimus Medical Group Inc in San Francisco can help you through the use of Botox® or fillers by eliminating your wrinkles and increasing your collagen production. Call the office today to schedule your appointment.

Aesthetic Services FAQs

What are facial fillers?

Facial fillers are products including hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, or collagen. These fillers provide you with a more youthful look by smoothing scar depressions, eliminating wrinkles, enhancing lips or replacing volume loss elsewhere in your face.

The main facial filler Dr. Hassler and his staff use is Juvederm®, which is made of hyaluronic acid and provides your skin with hydration and volume. It’s also designed to correct wrinkles and folds. These benefits occur because of an increase in collagen production around your face, giving it a firmer look.

What can I expect during the treatment?

Dr. Hassler and his team apply a local anesthetic cream around the injectable area ensuring your comfort throughout the treatment. In addition, all facial fillers contain lidocaine, which adds an extra layer of anesthetic protection.

Dr. Hassler’s decades of experience help him determine the amount of injectable to use in addition to how deep to insert the needle to achieve the most natural-looking results.

What can I expect after treatment?

The Botox or filler injection treatment is a quick procedure, lasting 15-30 minutes. Following your treatment, you should see immediate results. It can take a week following the injection to see optimal results. With Botox, the final effect can be seen in the first two weeks.

Dr. Hassler recommends you avoid sleeping for a few hours following the treatment to avoid rubbing or pressing the treatment area. Additionally, you should avoid any strenuous activity on your treatment day.

What is the difference between Botox® and facial fillers?

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were more than 9 million Botox and dermal filler treatments done in 2015. With such popularity, it’s important to know the differences between the two.

Facial fillers use hyaluronic acid along with other similar ingredients to add volume to the area of your face which have thinned out with the loss of collagen.

The primary objective of Botox is to freeze your muscles, which helps minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles that are caused by muscle movement.
